Neurotoxins (Botox®, Xeomin) relaxes facial muscles associated with fine lines and wrinkles.
How it Works
Botox is used primarily for wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and the forehead. The overuse of these muscles due to squinting causes wrinkles and fine lines to appear in the forehead and between the eyes, as well as crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes. Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces movement of the targeted muscles.
What to Expect
We analyze the areas planned for treatment to determine the placement and amount of Botox which will be necessary. Treatment takes from 10 to 30 minutes and feels like a minor pinch. The treated areas appear red and slightly swollen for a few minutes. Very few people experience bruising.
After Your Treatment
The treatment area should not be manipulated for 4 to 6 hours. Elevation in body temperature should be avoided as well (i.e., no hot yoga or saunas for the day). Botox begins working in 24-72 hours and continues to relax the treated muscles for up to 2 weeks. Botox is recommended every 3-6 months to maintain a smooth and subtle appearance.
