Adult acne seems like the most unfair thing in the world. You go through the awkwardness of puberty, you’ve already dealt with the crazy hormonal changes, aren’t you supposed to catch a break as an adult?!
Our medical spa is here to, regrettably, tell you otherwise. Adult acne is extraordinarily common, but it doesn’t have to be a death sentence or a problem that you just deal with for the rest of your life. By trying some of our skincare treatments, you could see huge relief with your skin, and be less prone to breakouts. Take a look at some of the acne solutions that Reflections Medical Spa offers, and contact us for a consultation at our Milton medispa!
At its base level, a HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates, and extracts impurities from your skin, all while rehydrating your skin with essential nutrients. Serums are delivered into your skin, and within a single treatment, you can expect to see some results immediately. If you have experienced sun damage, uneven skin tone, or are prone to acne (or even if you have fine lines and/or wrinkles), a HydraFacial can work wonders for your skin.
There are also add-ons available to target specific needs. Red and blue LED lights, brightening agents, and other features are also available. HydraFacials take about 30-45 minutes, aren’t painful or invasive, and are recommended to be done once every 4-6 weeks.
The trouble with acne as adults, as most of us know, isn’t just those annoying zits that pop up. The scarring is something that can make us all feel self-conscious, and unlike breakouts that go away, acne scars fade, but don’t always disappear.
Enter microstamping, a better alternative for helping smooth away acne scars. By increasing the body’s collagen production, skin is able to heal while looking younger and more revitalized. While it will look like you have a sunburn immediately following the treatment, it will start to subside within 24 hours. You can expect to see results within a few days to a week later.
Chemical peels can seem kind of intense, and it takes awhile for skin to peel and fully heal. It can take about five days for your skin, post-treatment, to fully stop peeling (and peeling needs to happen naturally — this can be a challenge for people who struggle with picking at their skin). Direct sunlight should be avoided for two weeks, and ideally, your chemical peel shouldn’t happen in the middle of summer.
That being said, there are tons of benefits to receiving a chemical peel. It can adequately improve skin tone, minimize fine lines, decrease dark spots, and even improve the appearance of acne and acne scars. If this is the route that you and your esthetician at Reflections Medical Spa agree upon, they will likely recommend a series of anywhere between three and six sessions for the best results.
Other Things to Keep in Mind
While these are some of the spa solutions that we offer, there are several other ways you can help your skin improve if you’re prone to breakouts. Here are just a few:
Avoid Touching Your Face
This can be difficult, especially if you have the urge to pop a pimple as soon as it flares up. But on the whole, the less you can touch your face, the better. If you must, make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before doing so.
Exfoliate, But Not Too Much
For as good as it can feel to scrub away and slough off those dead skin cells, too much exfoliating is usually detrimental to your skin. Try not to exfoliate more than once a week or so in order to let your skin heal — and remember, while it doesn’t do a perfect job, your skin actually exfoliates itself on its own!
Drink Lots of Water
Hydrated skin is happy skin! Your skin needs water to properly grow and thrive. It might seem like a very small thing, but ensuring you get enough water throughout the day is essential for your health. Water helps replenish skin cells, and without it, your skin becomes less resilient and drier.
In a future blog, we’ll cover even more ways that you can look after your skin and try to relieve symptoms of acne. If you’re ready to jump in and get a professional consultation, we would be more than happy to help!
